AOI Ltd is proud to announce the official launch of the UCS-Q1i, the newest addition to its Q1 series of ultra-compact underwater strobes, which includes the UCS-Q1 and UCS-Q1 RC.

The AOI UCS-Q1i is an ultra-small, intelligent strobe designed specifically for underwater photography. It combines the lightweight portability of the previous Q1 model with the advanced control technology of the UIS-P1, placing a strong emphasis on native support for Sony TTL and OM System (Olympus) RC-TTL.

Core Specifications & Performance

The new fiber-optic triggered strobe “combines the best features of the UCS-Q1 and UIS-P1″—though the UCS-Q1i utilizes a straight flash tube rather than the circular flash tube found on the UIS-P1.

Most importantly, the UCS-Q1i remains the brightest strobe in its class, boasting an impressive Guide Number of 22 (GN22) at ISO 100, a 5600K color temperature, and an 85° beam angle (with diffuser) to deliver powerful underwater illumination. Like the UIS-P1, the UCS-Q1i supports High-Speed Sync (HSS) for Sony cameras, enabling photographers to capture fast-moving underwater action with precision and clarity.

Guide Number (GN): 22 at ISO 100/m, offering the highest brightness level in the compact strobe category.
Recycle Time: Only approx. 0.85 seconds at full power output.
Color Temperature: 5600K (bare bulb), which softens to approx. 5000K when used with the included diffuser for a warmer, more natural light effect.
Beam Angle: 85° both horizontally and vertically when paired with the diffuser.
Depth Rating: Waterproof down to 60 meters (200 feet).

Intelligent Technology (InTeLi™ Mode)

The UCS-Q1i features AOI’s InTeLi™ Intelligent Mode, a system designed to optimize underwater exposure:

Like the UIS-P1, this new strobe is equipped with InTeLi mode, which is engineered to ensure “accurate and consistent” TTL exposure across different camera systems. In manual mode, the power output can be adjusted across six levels, ranging from full power down to 1/64 power.

Multi-System TTL Support: Supports Sony TTL and High-Speed Sync (HSS), as well as OM System RC-TTL.
i-Macro Mode: Optimized specifically for macro photography, automatically and precisely adjusting the light output for the extremely short distances of macro shots.
Self-Learning Function: The fiber-optic synchronization features an automatic learning function to adapt to the pre-flash patterns of various cameras.

Power & Design

Built-in Modeling Light: Integrates a 700-lumen LED light, which can be used as a focus light, a macro photography light source, or a general dive torch.
Battery Requirements: Powered by two 18650 Li-ion batteries (sold separately). A full charge (based on 3,100mAh batteries) provides approximately 1,500 full-power flashes.
Ultra-Lightweight Design: Weighs approximately 550g on land and only about 90g underwater (including batteries), making it ideal for travel.
Mounting Interface: Comes with a built-in, non-interchangeable 1-inch ball mount.
